Notts Outlaws bowling coach Andy Pick says that there is no better time to play a team like Warwickshire on Wednesday.

The Outlaws play the Bears in their second game of the Royal London One-Day Cup after Michael Lumb and Riki Wessels set an opening record stand for a List A game in England in their first game against Northampton on Monday.

“I’ve never seen anything like the hitting on Monday. It was absolute carnage. It’s the thing that dreams are made of – we might not ever see that again,” he said.

“It wasn’t an easy day for the bowlers. Every ball was a battle. We wanted to go hard from the start – and we did. It was real hard work to stay in the game at times.

“Players like Sam Wood held their nerve in a tough time – and players finishing off in the end – something our lads are generally good at.”

The Outlaws have one over their local rivals in recent times, winning narrowly by one-wicket back in 2014 before securing an emphatic victory over the Bears as Welbeck last year.

And Pick believes that it will be up to the bowler’s to hold their nerve on a pitch that should favour the batsmen.

“There’s a reason why almost 900 runs have been scored – it’s a really good wicket – and boundaries are fairly short, that’s why the runs have been scored.," he said.

“We’ve had a couple wins – and we know what to expect and hopefully we will have more of the same when we bat and not so much when they bat.”

The Outlaws have named a 12-man squad for the clash against Warwickshire, with Jake Ball returning to international duty with England ahead of the final Sri Lanka Test, which starts on Thursday.
