Peter Siddle has his sights set on returning to Australia’s Test XI, after returning to training following the back and ankle operations that forced him out of the 2016 season at Trent Bridge.

The 31-year old fast bowler, Australia’s most experienced contracted player at Test level, is confident that, in time, he can regain his Baggy Green.

“I know when I'm fully fit that I'm probably going to be getting picked," said Siddle. "When I'm at my best, I know I'm one of the better bowlers in the country and that's all I can work at.

"I'm always a confident person. I'm not too worried about what's going on outside.

"I'm old enough now and I've played enough cricket. With the experience I have, the cricket side of things will be all right.”

Siddle has played 61 Test matches since making his debut in 2008, with 208 wickets to his name. He took an Ashes hat-trick in 2010 and has four five-wicket hauls against England, including 5-50 at Trent Bridge in 2013.

The double injury has ruled him out of Australia’s forthcoming Test series in Sri Lanka, although he is now back in training and on the road to recovery.

"You never want to be injured, but it's a blessing in a way that I could get both (injuries treated).”

"Nothing was showing up and so you just keep playing. I knew it wasn’t quite right, but you never want to give up an opportunity to play for Australia.”
