Notts Outlaws round off their opening block of four fixtures in the Royal London One-Day Cup with a trip to the north east to face Durham on Wednesday 15 June 2016.

The match will begin at Chester-le-Street at 2pm and be played under floodlights, with the Outlaws looking to extend their unbeaten run in the competition.

After home wins over Northants and Warwickshire, Dan Christian’s side were left frustrated when rain wiped out their match against Lancashire Lightning at Backpool, on Sunday.

That leaves the Outlaws on five points from three matches. Durham have gained two points so far, with a win and two losses from their opening three contests.

Head To Head

This match will be the 38th time that Durham and Nottinghamshire have met in the various domestic one-day competitions. Durham holds a narrow advantage, having won 18 matches, to Nottinghamshire’s 17.

There has been one no result and one other match was completely abandoned.

In the north east there have been 19 previous meetings, with 15 of them being played at the present county headquarters in Chester-le-Street.

Hartlepool and Stockton-on-Tees have each staged a match and two were played at Ropery Lane in Chester-le-Street, including a 1967 Gillette Cup match, many years before Durham became a first class county.

Notts have won nine and lost ten of the away matches.

Last Time

The last one-day meeting at Chester-le-Street was for a 2014 semi final clash in the Royal London One-Day Cup.

Ben Stokes ended Notts’ hopes of returning to Lord’s for a second straight year when his masterly innings of 164 was the decisive factor.

Stokes helped lift Durham to 353 for eight, their highest score against Notts, who could only manage 270 all out, despite 114 from captain James Taylor.

History

Our look back focuses on three previous one-day matches between the counties.

2004

The teams clashed at the Sports Ground in Cleethorpes, the sixth and last time that Notts used the Lincolnshire venue as an outground. The highest individual innings seen in those matches came from Durham’s Marcus North, who hit 121 not out in his side’s six-wicket victory.

2008

Temporary floodlights had been in use at many grounds since the advent of day/night cricket a decade earlier. Trent Bridge’s first permanent lights were built by Abacus Lighting of Sutton-in-Ashfield. The lights, on top of six 40-metre high masts, were first used for a Pro40 defeat against Durham in August 2008.

2015

Last season the two sides met at Trent Bridge in the quarter-finals of this competition and Notts exacted revenge over the holders for their semi final loss the previous year.

Rain left Durham with a revised D/L target of 194 from 24 overs but they lost their way and were bowled out for just 144 in 21.2 overs, with man of the match Samit Patel taking four for 11.

Earlier Alex Hales had made 62 and Dan Christian had scored an unbeaten 48 as Notts made 170 for four in a rain-interrupted innings.

Played For Them Both

Seven cricketers have played in first class matches for both Nottinghamshire and Durham. The first to do so was wicketkeeper Chris Scott, who played 63 times for Notts between 1981 and 1991, then moved north to join Durham for their debut season in the county championship.

Others to have represented the two counties include: Nathan Astle, Mark Davies, Will Gidman, John Morris, Mark Saxelby and Will Smith.

Did You Know?

A world record was set when the sides met at Trent Bridge in the Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy of 2006 – and it still stands today.

Despite their mighty efforts failing to prevent a 28-run defeat, Nottinghamshire’s Chris Read and AJ Harris broke the world List A ninth-wicket record.

The duo came together with the score at 95 for eight, chasing 281 to win. Both batsmen achieved career-high scores, with Read making 135 and his partner scoring 35. Both were then dismissed in quick succession, having added 155 runs together.
