Nottinghamshire’s Second XI succumbed to a double defeat against Derbyshire in the Second XI Twenty20 competition at the 3aaa County Ground today.

A Falcons side, featuring their limited-overs first team captain Wes Durston at the top of the order in both matches, while the New Zealand international duo of Neil Broom & Hamish Rutherford played one game apiece, emerged victorious by 29 runs and eight wickets respectively.

In game one, two wickets each for Ben Kitt and Sam Wood restricted the home side to 156-5, with Ben Slater scoring 57, but Tom Moores’ patient 45 at the top of the order was as much as the Outlaws could muster in return as they staggered to 127-8 in reply.

The visitors would have finished further short was it not for some lusty late striking from Matthew Carter who closed on 24 not out from nine deliveries.

In the second match of the day, Dan Hodgson top-scored with 34, and Sam Wood added 28, only for the Outlaws to be restricted to 123-5 with former Notts fast bowler Andrew Carter a particular thorn in their side bowling four overs for just ten runs.

Luke Fletcher dismissed Durston for nine early in the reply, only for Rutherford’s rapid 25 off ten to put the Falcons ahead of the rate, allowing Greg Cork (40*) and Alex Hughes (45*) to guide Derbyshire to victory with 3.4 overs to spare.
