Nottinghamshire’s Seconds enjoyed a fine double victory in their warm up Twenty20s with Lincolnshire Development ahead of the season opener against Warwickshire on Thursday.

Having enjoyed good practice against the Lincolnshire side last week in a three-day fixture, Sam Wood, Brendan Taylor and Brett Hutton utilised the friendlies to spend valuable game time with the bat and ball.

In the first match, Nottinghamshire won the toss and elected to bat first, Will Root (21) and Tom Moores (16) got the hosts off to a solid start.

Taylor (17) and Wood (14) built on the early platform but neither batsman could kick on and when they, and Will Gidman (2) had been dismissed, Notts were struggling on 79-5 off 14.3 overs.

Brett Hutton (29 off 14), Anuj Dal (17* off 12) and Luke Wood (15* off 11) all provided crucial lower order cameos to life the final total up to 139-6.

Nottinghamshire quickly reduced the visitors to 9-2 and that soon became 73-6 as Sam Wood continued his fine start to the season with the ball to take 4-36.

However, Luke Robinson smashed 38 off 21 balls to give the visitors a chance, before he was the last man out with the score on 131, the Seconds winning the first T20 by eight runs.

Lincolnshire had first use of the surface in the second match, Louis Kimber getting the visitors off to a flier with 38 at the top of the order.

Luke Wood, Gidman and Matt Carter all made timely breakthroughs but Dominic Brown hit an unbeaten 60, from just 36 balls and including three fours and five sixes, to lift the score up to 157-4.

Notts struggled with early momentum, losing Root and Moores with just 11 on the board before Taylor and Sam Wood took turns to take the attack to the Lincolnshire bowlers.

Wood pummelled six maximums and seven fours in a sublime 33-ball 74 before his dismissal saw Taylor kick on, the right hander finishing with 58 off just 36 balls to secure a seven wicket victory with over six overs remaining.
