Luke Wood hopes the familiar surroundings of Trent Bridge can help Nottinghamshire secure their second victory of the Specsavers County Championship season, against Warwickshire.

Wood is yet to make his competitive bow for the summer but could replace Jake Ball, who is part of the England squad for the first Investec Test against Sri Lanka starting on Thursday, when the game gets underway at 11am on Sunday.

The 20-year-old is looking to deliver with both bat and ball as Nottinghamshire aim to replicate their home victory over the upcoming opponents in 2015.

“Hopefully over this week I can get back in the side and show what I am about,” said Wood.

“We have been playing quite well over the opening weeks and if we can continue doing that we should pick up the victory.

“It has been a bonus having Broady back over the past weeks and obviously you have the likes of Jackson Bird, so we have a strong unit in the bowling department.

“Add to that myself, Jake Ball, Harry Gurney, Brett Hutton & the likes of Luke Fletcher and Will Gidman and we are unbelievably well stocked in that department.

“A lot of players have put in good performances over the early weeks and hopefully some of those can click together to get us another win."

Warwickshire are set to arrive at Trent Bridge with a host of current and former internationals, boasting a squad featuring England players past & present in Ian Bell, Jonathon Trott, Chris Woakes, Boyd Rankin and Rikki Clarke, as well as wily New Zealand off-spinner Jeetan Patel.

However, whilst Wood says dismissing any international cricketer on the county circuit is a feather in his cap, he says that, to him in the heat of battle, they are all just another batsman.

“Yes it is good to get anyone out in a strong Division One, but almost every team has international stars now so you need to focus on bowling to the batsman and not the name,” he said.

“It feels weird sometimes playing against these sorts of players, but it is great to have quality batsmen to test yourself against.

“The big wickets you take are always going to be in your memory and it helps down the line knowing you can dismiss players of that calibre.

“Scoring lower order runs alongside the likes of Brett Hutton and Chris Read is also crucial to my game and important for the team, as it can take the score from 350 to 400, or from 400 to 450.

“Last year against Warwickshire we got over 500 so that gives everyone confidence that we can get those runs again.”

Further up the Nottinghamshire batting order, the selection of Alex Hales by England means a recall for former Zimbabwe international Brendan Taylor.

Taylor spent the entirity of 2015 at the top of the order and could be a straight swap for Hales as opener, although Director of Cricket Mick Newell also has the option of moving Greg Smith up a place from number three.

With Stuart Broad and Jake Ball both also in the international party, Nottinghamshire will make two enforced changes to the bowling unit with Wood, Bird and Fletcher the prospective beneficiaries.

Brett Hutton and Harry Gurney retain their positions as pace bowling options, the former having returned to the side  at Lord's following two matches on the sidelines while Gurney has been ever present so far this campaign, taking 14 wickets at 23.92.
