Sam Wood limbered up for this evening’s NatWest T20 Blast opener by firing Nottinghamshire’s seconds to victory over Lancashire.

The captain’s rapid 47 at the top of the order meant that, although Stephen Parry’s three wicket burst pegged Notts back to 91-4 when rain arrived after 13 overs, they were one run ahead of the duckworth/lewis par score.

Notts won the toss & elected to field at Liverpool and made the decision pay by restricting the home side to 146-5 from their 20 overs.

Jordan Clark (37) & Rob Jones (27) starred in the mainstay partnership of the innings, adding 66 for the third wicket, before each falling to the promising leg-spin of Connor Marshall, who finished with figures of 2-24.

Danny Lamb added 33 off 24 balls at the death before becoming the second of Trent Lawford’s two wickets for 24.

Will Gidman had earlier bagged the early wicket of Tom Smith (2) and went on to record impressive figures of 1-16 from his four overs.

The Notts reply began explosively with Wood striking seven fours & two sixes in his 25 ball knock prior to becoming the first of Parry’s victims.

The all-rounder, who had earlier conceded just 11 runs from his two overs of off-spin, shared in a 7.3 over partnership of 64 with Tom Moores, who was unbeaten on 36 when rain brought a premature end with Notts one run ahead to secure victory.
