Trent Bridge will play host to the England Lions for the first time in their history, when they take on South Africa A at the beginning of June next year.

Having been home to numerous touring sides and Under-19 matches over the years, England’s second team will play their first fixture at the home of Nottinghamshire on Thursday 1 June 2017.

The last time an England representative side took to the field at Trent Bridge, current Test squad member Haseeb Hameed was the star of the show.

The right-handed opening batsmen scored 97 and 125 from the top of the order as England’s Under 19 took two victories on back-to-back days against South Africa U19s in Nottingham, by 74 (DL) and 39 runs respectively.

The A ODI in June marks the first of a three-match series between the England Lions and South Africa A with the tourists also facing sides from Derbyshire, Yorkshire and Hampshire during their visit.

Nottinghamshire’s Jake Ball has recently made the leap from the England Lions to the full national side and players stepping out at Trent Bridge on June 1 will have similar ambitions with the ICC Champions Trophy beginning on the same day.

ECB Chief Executive Officer Tom Harrison said: “We’re very pleased to have agreed such a comprehensive touring programme for 2017 – a schedule which will provide fans with even more opportunities to see two international teams in action at county grounds; and help our Lions players test themselves against high quality opposition in both red and white-ball cricket.

“With this country also hosting the ICC Champions Trophy and the ICC Women’s World Cup next season, 2017 promises to be a hugely exciting summer of cricket – and a strong platform to promote our sport to an even wider and more diverse audience.”
