2025 Annual-report
NOTTINGHAMSHIRE COUNTY CRICKET CLUB 2025 ANNUAL REPORT & ACCOUNTS 18 In many ways, it’s harder to write this report than it was last year’s, because I want to do justice to the gravity of what we achieved in 2025. M I C K N EWE L L CR ICKET REPORT It was only the seventh time in 135 years of the County Championship that Nottinghamshire have won the title. These triumphs are rare, and as such, should be reflected upon and celebrated, before we take stock to ensure this year is not a one-off. The building blocks of our success can be neatly summed up in one word: contributions. Every one of the 19 players who featured in the Championship played a valuable role and deserves huge credit. Haseeb Hameed again led superbly in his second year as captain, passing 1,000 Championship runs, while Ben Slater did the same, forging a formidable opening partnership. Jack Haynes also enjoyed a break- out season, with his first century for the club against Essex in April a memorable moment. Our bowling unit was equally consistent, with six bowlers taking more than 25 wickets. JoshTongue’s explosive spells, Brett Hutton’s metronomic accuracy that yielded 38 wickets, and Mohammad Abbas’ 32 scalps all underpinned our success. The blend of homegrown talent and overseas quality was crucial. Abbas’ proven excellence in English conditions was matched by the emergence of Fergus O’Neill, who impressed both on and off the field during his initial stint. We’re delighted visa rule changes mean Fergus will return for extended periods in both 2026 and 2027. Also returning is Kyle Verreynne, who ended 2025 as both a County andWorldTest Champion; a particular highlight for him was “HASEEB HAMEED AGAIN LED SUPERBLY IN HIS SECOND YEAR AS CAPTAIN, PASSING 1,000 CHAMPIONSHIP RUNS, WHILE BEN SLATER DID THE SAME, UNDERLINING A FORMIDABLE OPENING PARTNERSHIP. OUR BOWLING UNIT WAS EQUALLY CONSISTENT, WITH SIX BOWLERS TAKING MORE THAN 25 WICKETS.” Mick Newell
