2025 Annual-report
NOTTINGHAMSHIRE COUNTY CRICKET CLUB 2025 ANNUAL REPORT & ACCOUNTS 66 The President then asked the Chair to respond to the resolution. Mr Hunt began by thanking all those members who had cast their votes. The club and the General Committee respected the constitutional right of members to put forward resolutions and call an EGM, but the targeting of individual General Committee members had been particularly unpleasant for all concerned. Therefore, it was particularly comforting to know that, whilst many members had voted to say they did not want to see a reduction in County Championship cricket, they nevertheless voted to say that they did have confidence in the General Committee. Being able to express opposing views, and yet to do so with respect for each other, was a measure of a strong club. The Committee had always been determined to look after the interests of all Notts members, supporters, staff and players, by ensuring that the club was in the best possible shape to thrive in the years ahead, Mr Hunt said. He ended by saying that the club and the General Committee looked forward to sharing that future with all of our members, irrespective of differing opinions, and he thanked members for their support and their strong vote of confidence. The President then opened the floor to questions. Mr Nick Sandford asked why the club had not given the exact voting figures. In reply, the Chief Executive said that this was a different type of vote to that conducted each year at the AGM, when members are elected on to the General Committee. In that situation, there is a competition for places, and so the exact number of votes is crucial as it determines the selection of candidates. In EGM 2, the question was not about the degree of confidence in each individual General Committee member, therefore each vote of confidence or no confidence was determined on a simple majority. The Chief Executive could, however, give high-level numbers of the overall votes cast and she could confirm that around three quarters of votes cast expressed confidence in the General Committee. 1 Mr Sandford said that he agreed with Mr Evans and believed that there should be more communi- cation between members and the General Committee. Mr Hunt replied by saying that the club had worked hard to ensure that it has a diverse General Committee, including individual members with a range of back- grounds and interests to represent our membership, and with the experience and skillset to enable the Committee to deliberate complex matters. Many of them had careers and/or families, and some of them also had caring responsibilities – all of which they were required to manage alongside their Committee responsibilities, which went further than ten meetings a year. He acknowledged the importance of communication, but also asked members to bear this in mind. The President drew the meeting to a close by thanking all those who had attended whether in-person or via Zoom, and for taking the time to take part in this process. The club looked forward to welcoming everyone back to Trent Bridge for the closing exchanges of the season. The Chair agreed and informed members that the Clubhouse would be open to all members during Surrey v Notts at the Oval, which would be televised by Sky. The match would be shown on screens around the Clubhouse, and there would be complimentary tea and coffee. He wished everyone a good evening. 1 After the meeting, on request, the CEO confirmed that, of the 749 members who voted on this resolution, 58 cast a vote of no confidence in all 12 General Committee members and 413 cast a vote of confidence in all 12 General Committee members. Of the 278 remaining members, there was no consistent pattern of voting either against or for any one individual.
