Nottinghamshire First Class Debut – arrives for 2013 season

Ajmal Shahzad joins Nottinghamshire for the 2013 season with the twin-aim of firing his new county towards some successes and also putting himself back into the thoughts of the national selectors.

The Huddersfield-born quick bowler fell out of favour at his home county after taking 125 wickets for Yorkshire in 45 first class matches.

A parting of the ways saw him spend last summer on loan at Lancashire but – keen for a new challenge – he arrives at Trent Bridge to bolster Mick Newell’s already impressive battery of pace bowlers.

Lithe and athletic, Ajmal has already completed the ‘full-house’ of appearing for England in all three formats, with a Test debut against Bangladesh in 2010 adding to 11 ODI appearances and 3 international t20 outings.

No mug with the bat, Ajmal will also strengthen the Nottinghamshire lower order as he looks to add to a career-best score of 88.

Ajmal will relish the opportunity of bowling at Trent Bridge, a ground he has already enjoyed great success on whilst visiting with Yorkshire.
