Experienced spinner Gary Keedy has arrived at Trent Bridge as something as a utility man. Primarily employed as the Club’s assistant physiotherapist, Keedy has also been registered as a player, and remains ready to step into the breach if needed.

After crossing the Rose border early in his career, Keedy enjoyed more than a decade with Lancashire, taking 678 first class wickets in his 223 appearances. It’s a common school of thought that Keedy, in a time where England have found spin options limited, should have been involved in the international setup, though Monty Panesar’s development put paid to it.

Instead, he has remained one of the most accomplished spinners in county cricket, winning the LV= County Championship in 2011. He remained loyal to Lancashire for a further season despite interest from elsewhere, but the emergence of Simon Kerrigan limited his options.

After a year with Surrey, Keedy chose to continue his career in cricket at Nottinghamshire as part of the new look medical team, though his registration as a player offers Mick Newell and his coaches an excellent option should spin be required later in the summer.
