Nottinghamshire First Class Debut – 23 Apr 2008 v Oxford UCCE (a)

Luke Fletcher is a broad, strapping throwback to a bygone age, happy to toil away all day long in the pursuit of wickets.

The imposing seamer joined Notts from local club cricket and in just his fourth championship match he gave an indication that he may one day be regarded as a true all-rounder by scoring 92 against Hampshire at The Rose Bowl.

Having helped Notts to their 2010 LV= County Championship success he has established a reputation as one of the great ‘tryers’ on the county circuit, and in 2013 he was rewarded with the wickets his performances had always merited.

Ever-economical, he claimed two five-wicket hauls in the latter half of the 2013 season to finish the summer with 43 first class wickets at under 30, no mean feat in a side who struggled to collect 20 wickets in matches.

His 2014 season was all about his ability to bowl at the death in one day matches with 27 wickets in T20 and List A matches across the season at an average of 21.7 and an economy of 5.93. Those figures saw him secure a deal with Wellington Firebirds to play in the New Zealand domestic T20 competition and he will be hoping that form continues throughout the 2015 season.
