Nottinghamshire First-Class Debut – 3 September 2008 v Somerset (Trent Bridge)

Eight years after making his Nottinghamshire debut Alex Hales joined the elite list of players that have represented England in all three formats of the game.

The right-handed opening batsman has been a regular in the international T20 line-up since 2011 and in ODIs since 2014.

His aggressive top-order stroke play has made Hales a much sought-after commodity in the world’s short-form competitions, bringing regular appearances in Australia’s Big Bash and an ICC world ranking of number one.

Determined to prove his worth in the longer game, the former MCC Young Cricketer scored more than 1,000 first-class runs in both 2015 and 2016 to nudge the selectors into giving him an opportunity as Alistair Cook’s opening partner.

Hales played in 11 Tests between a Durban debut against South Africa on Boxing Day 2015 and last August’s Oval showdown against Pakistan  scoring five half centuries during that period, with a best of 94.

For Nottinghamshire, Hales has scored over 5,000 first-class, 2,600 one-day and 2,200 T20 runs, picking up winners medals from the 2010 County Championship season and the one-day triumph at Lord’s three years later.

Amongst his outstanding achievements are two of the most brilliant white ball innings for his country. His 116 not out against Sri Lanka at Chittagong in 2014 made him the first (and, so far, only) batsman to score a T20 hundred for England and last summer he lit up Trent Bridge with an innings of 171 against Pakistan, the highest ODI score by an England player.
