Nottinghamshire’s coaching staff for 2017 has been bolstered by the acquisition of Ant Botha. Having made 137 first class appearances, the South African-born, former all-rounder turned to coaching after an elbow injury forced him into early retirement in 2011.

Apart from appearances in his homeland, he spent long periods in the county game with stints at both Derbyshire and Warwickshire.

As a right-handed batsman, he scored 4,403 runs in the longer format, at an average of 23.9, with the highest of his four centuries being a score of 156 not out, made for Derbyshire against Yorkshire in 2005.

His slow left-arm bowling captured 307 first class wickets, with a best of eight for 53, for Natal B against Northern B at Centurion in February 1998.

Botha also played in 149 List A and 72 T20 contests before beginning his coaching career in Adelaide, South Australia.

In recent times he has been part of the backroom set-up at Derbyshire but has now made the short switch to Trent Bridge to assume the responsibility of the county’s Second XI and Academy sides.
