Nottinghamshire First-Class Debut – 15 September 2014 v Sussex (Trent Bridge)

Luke Wood will be hoping to remain fully fit during 2017 as he bids to keep his career on an upward keel. After a highly promising spell in the first team, a couple of years ago, he was restricted to just three championship appearances last term.

The left-arm quick graduated through the academy, winning the Most Improved Award as recently as 2014, the year in which he featured in the end of campaign championship match against Sussex.

By the following spring Wood had nailed down a spot in Nottinghamshire’s fast bowling quartet and showed another side of his game by blasting a ton in just his fifth first-class match, also against Sussex. That knock, an even 100, included six maximums and came whilst batting at number nine in the order, the first county batsman to make a hundred from that position for 30 years.

Swinging the ball prodigiously (to devastating effect away from left-handed batsmen) he claimed 30 wickets in 2015 and began last summer in the same form by taking five for 40 at Fenner’s, against Cambridge MCCU, his maiden five-wicket haul.

Wood also made his white ball debut in both shortened formats last year and again showed his worth with the bat by blasting 52 from 31 balls at Grace Road against Leicestershire.
