Nottinghamshire First-Class Debut – 23 August 2016 v Yorkshire (Scarborough)

The emergence of Tom Moores into Nottinghamshire’s first team was one of the bright spots in an otherwise disappointing 2016 campaign for the county.

Prior to nailing down a starting spot for the final four matches of the summer, the youngster sampled a taste of first team action whilst on loan at Old Trafford, earlier in the season.

Injuries to Alex Davies and Jos Buttler prompted Lancashire to scour the circuit for a suitable replacement wicketkeeper and their gaze fell upon the young Moores.

The former England Under 19 international had already shown his appetite for the big occasion by scoring a century to help Notts clinch the Second Eleven Championship in 2015.

Whilst with Lancashire he donned the gloves in six T20 (including a white-hot Roses match at Headingley) and four one-day matches before being given a flavour of Championship action with a debut against Durham at Southport and a trip to Southampton to face Hampshire.

Playing only as a batsman, the left-hander made composed contributions of 23 and 41 on his maiden Notts appearance and a two-year contract with the club was quickly offered and signed.

Son of first team head coach Peter, Moores junior should have no fear about any extra scrutiny being put on his performances, with a long and successful career in the game already looking assured.
