Nottinghamshire First Class Debut – 22 September 2015 v Hampshire (Trent Bridge)

Billy Root will be hoping that the 2018 campaign sees him cement his place in all three formats for Nottinghamshire.

The younger brother of England Test captain, Joe has made fleeting appearances since being given his debut by the county at the end of the 2015 campaign.

He had already experienced first class cricket by that stage, having made a handful of appearances with Leeds/Bradford MCCU.

With the students, he registered a maiden hundred, scoring 133 against Sussex at Hove in early 2016.

Fittingly, his first championship ton for Notts came on the same ground, last September, with Root scoring 132 and sharing in a memorable stand of 242 with Chris Read to help steer the county towards the draw they needed to guarantee promotion.

The left-hander experienced plenty of other highs last year, making nine appearances in the Royal London One-Day Cup competition, a campaign that saw him register a hundred against Warwickshire at Edgbaston.

He returned to that stadium as part of the Outlaws’ side that lifted the NatWest T20 Blast for the first time.
