Luke Fletcher has been a stalwart of the Nottinghamshire side for almost a decade and heads into his tenth season with 270 first class wickets to his name.
The strapping fast bowler remains one of the most popular performers in the Nottinghamshire squad and his no-nonsense, run in all-day, approach is usually heralded by a roar of approval from his noisy fan-base, appreciative of his efforts.
In just his fourth first-class match for Notts the youngster gave every indication that he may develop into a genuine all-rounder by scoring 92 away against Hampshire.
That opportunity for a maiden century was again spurned last season, when he was unluckily run out -again for 92 – in the away match against Durham.
Fletcher enjoyed a highly prolific run of form, with both bat and ball, in the first half of the last year and he fulfilled an ambition of appearing in a Lord’s final.
Indeed, he almost took a wicket with the first ball of last July’s Royal London One-Day Cup final when Surrey’s Jason Roy was spilled at slip.
The joy of securing a winner’s medal was in stark contrast to his feelings seven days later when a blow to the head, sustained whilst bowling to Birmingham batsman Sam Hain, put him in hospital and brought an early end to his campaign.
Fully recovered, Fletcher will be looking to recapture the form of early 2017 as he looks to renew rivalries with some of the best batsmen in the First Division.
