Awaiting Nottinghamshire First-Class debut
Abbas joined the Trent Bridge outfit whilst boasting an enviable record in Test and First-Class cricket, having shone both in his native Pakistan and with Leicestershire in the County Championship.
It may have taken until his 28th year for the right-armer to earn his Test call-up, but he immediately took to life at the highest level.
The seamer’s first Test five-fer came in his third Test, against West Indies at Roseau. Abbas continued to impress against Sri Lanka, Ireland and England, before claiming 10-95 to earn the man-of-the-match award in a resounding win over Australia in Abu Dhabi.
Abbas’ international call-up followed a consistent run of success in his homeland, having topped the red-ball wicket-taking charts in both the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons.
And the 29-year-old brought his accuracy and economy to the English game upon signing for Leicestershire, taking 79 wickets across two summers at 20.67.
