One of Nottinghamshire’s homegrown favourites has been awarded a Testimonial season in 2023, having given more than a decade of dedicated service which has so far delivered over 600 all-format wickets.
Luke Fletcher remains one of the most popular performers in the Nottinghamshire squad and his no-nonsense, run-in-all-day approach is usually heralded by a roar of approval from his noisy fanbase, appreciative of his efforts.
In recent times the strapping fast bowler has become one of the most respected new-ball bowlers in the land, and in 2021 he was the runaway leading wicket-taker in the County Championship, picking up 66 to secure the PCA County Championship Player of the Year and Cricket Writer’s Club Player of the Year Awards.
During that golden year he bettered his personal best in successive games, with 6-24 against Essex and 7-37 against Worcestershire, both at his beloved Trent Bridge.
A member of the squad that won the County Championship title in 2010, he now has a full haul of domestic honours, playing in the winning Royal London One-Day Cup final side of 2017 and collecting a winner’s medal from the T20 Blast campaign of 2020. Last summer he was also involved with the Trent Rockets as they celebrated their Lord’s triumph in the second edition of The Hundred.
Fletcher gave an early indication that he might blossom into a full-blown all-rounder during his first full season of First-Class cricket by hitting 92 against Hampshire in 2009. Although he matched that exact score in a match against Durham in 2017, a maiden hundred still eludes the Bulwell-born paceman.
One of the few dark days in his glittering career came at Edgbaston in 2017 when playing against Warwickshire in a televised game. When bowling to Sam Hain, the ball was drilled back at him with such ferocity it struck him on the head and brought an early end to his campaign.
