Lyndon James has enjoyed a meteoric rise in recent seasons, nailing a regular spot in the Nottinghamshire middle order and proving effective with the ball.
On a number of occasions during 2021 he came close to striking a maiden career hundred before reaching that milestone in sublime style at Durham early last year, during a 220-run partnership with Ben Slater.
One century predictably brought two and then three as the tall, classically elegant right-hander averaged over 52 to help Notts to the Division Two title, and he finished the campaign with a career-best score of 164*, again against Durham.
The Worksop-born all-rounder actually made his County Championship debut as long ago as 2018 and took the plaudits with the ball on that occasion. Dismissing Test players Murali Vijay, Dan Lawrence and Tom Westley, he posted figures of 3-54 with his fast-medium bowling.
James went on to spend much of the 2019 season captaining the Nottinghamshire Second XI, leading a side which on occasions included the likes of Alex Hales, Joe Clarke, Chris Nash and Ben Duckett, and he led the second string to the T20 Finals Day showpiece at Arundel, where they would ultimately bow out at the semi-final stage to Glamorgan.
The right-hander made his first breakthrough into the senior limited-overs setup in 2019, making his List A debut for the Outlaws against Worcestershire Rapids at New Road.
It was in 2021, however, that he became a staple in the Notts red-ball side, developing a penchant for lengthy stays in the middle and for breaking partnerships. He also had a consistent run of games in the Royal London Cup competition and bagged five wickets in the victory over Warwickshire at Edgbaston.
The precocious young talent has already attracted the attention of the national selectors with call-ups to the First-Class Counties side for matches against India and New Zealand, and time as part of the England Lions setup.
