Paul Franks is Nottinghamshire’s Assistant Head Coach. The former county stalwart made the step up to join Peter Moores’ first team coaching staff in late 2016, after four years in charge of the county’s second string.
Franks has guided several promising youngsters into the first team ranks over the last few years and has now been charged with overseeing their further development alongside Moores.
During a long and illustrious playing career, spent solely with his home county, he amassed over 7,000 first class runs and took 524 wickets.
A product of the Farnsfield club, he burst onto the first class scene in late 1996, making his debut against Hampshire at Southampton.
The following season he bagged a hat-trick, against Warwickshire at Trent Bridge, the county’s first for a decade. He then became a World Cup winner, skippering the England Under-19 side to defeat their New Zealand counterparts in the final in Johannesburg.
A stylish left-handed batsman and bustling medium-pace bowler, he appeared to be set for a lengthy full international career when he represented his country in an ODI against the West Indies on his home Trent Bridge ground in 2000 but, sadly, a period out of the game with a troublesome knee injury then disrupted his progress.
‘The General’, as he is known, has become an integral part of the Nottinghamshire squad ever since and was a member of the county’s title-winning side in both 2005 and 2010.
Having gained some part-time coaching experience with the United Arab Emirates’ side at the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, Franks’ first season alongside Moores culminated in success across all three formats.
And the Assistant Head Coach was able to further hone his managerial skills as part of Andy Flower's Trent Rockets coaching team in The Hundred and with Team Abu Dhabi in the Abu Dhabi T10 League.
