Awaiting Nottinghamshire First-Class debut

Toby Pettman had a breakthrough season in 2022 with three appearances in the Royal London Cup and a couple of productive loan opportunities away from Trent Bridge.

Pettman honed his sporting and academic skills at Oxford University, making seven first-class appearances and taking 33 wickets at 21.15.

The 6’7 seamer was first spotted by Nottinghamshire coaches Kevin Shine and Paul Franks at a University Centres of Excellence trial day. After impressing with his accuracy and bounce, the paceman was invited to spend time with the Notts Second XI, before being offered a contract.

In 2021, during his first summer as a professional, the 23-year-old claimed 32 Second XI Championship wickets at 26.25, putting him second in the side’s wicket taking chart.

One year later, after a full winter working with Shine, the big quick was given the chance to bolster the dwindling resources of both Derbyshire and Kent. He took seven wickets in two championship matches for Notts' East Midlands rivals and two more in a lone First Division outing for the Canterbury-based side.

A chance with his parent club came in the Royal London competition and he took 4-44 at Welbeck in the win over Surrey, one of three matches in which he featured.
