7 APPROPRIATE FOOTWEAR Winter training takes place in the indoor halls at Trent Bridge. During this training, the athletes will be required to perform all of their skills including change of direction. Our podiatrist recommends a neutral cushioned shoe for general running, however most of the running work completed indoors at Trent Bridge will involve some change of direction. In these cases, largely cushioned shoes are not optimal as they increase the risk of ankle sprains and put the shoe under stress that they are not designed for. One of the solutions our pro cricketers use for this is by wearing tennis shoes for indoor training. They are generally sturdy shoes with plenty of grip that are designed for lots of acceleration, deceleration and change of direction, similar to the requirements of winter training. Another alternative are hardwicket cricket shoes that have a relatively flat base. Options for suitable footwear include: Nike Vapor, Nike Zoom, New Balance 696, New Balance 996, Asics Game FF, Asics Gel-Challenger, Adidas Baricade, Adidas Courtjam.
