Ben Duckett and Sophia Dunkley know a thing or two about scoring runs.

Together, they have a combined career tally of over 28,000 of them, and both have passed the magic marker of 1,000 in The Hundred.

They are two of only nine players - five in the men’s Hundred and four in the women’s - to do so, sitting fifth and third, respectively, in each competition’s list of all-time run-scorers.

While Dunkley’s previous Trent Bridge appearances have been limited to five, in contrast to Duckett, who has played 75 times in NG2, treading pastures new is not unfamiliar to her.

Born in Lambeth, south London, she is the first Black woman to play Test cricket for England, having made her debut against India in June 2021.

On that occasion, she made an unbeaten 74 in the first innings, and has continued to underline her credentials ever since.

She has made seven half-centuries in The Hundred, behind only Danni Wyatt-Hodge and her new teammate Nat Sciver-Brunt, the only two who she also trails for overall runs.

Although still only 27 years old, Dunkley is an experienced operator who has appeared in five different World Cups - three ODI and two T20I - as well as three Ashes series.

Duckett, meanwhile, needs far less of an introduction to Trent Bridge faithful, but also holds an outright record of his own in The Hundred.

Though he sits behind only four of his peers on the overall run-scoring charts of the men’s competition, he trumps them all in one aspect - the highest number of fours.

Such swashbuckling strokeplay has brought him over 5,500 runs for Nottinghamshire since arriving in 2018, a seven-year period in which he has also lifted the Vitality Blast trophy.

On that occasion, in 2020, he hit the winning runs to spark joyous celebrations among those of a Nottingham persuasion, a feat he will no doubt hope to emulate this summer.

Having come of age since his first England stint in 2016, Duckett is now also an established all-format England opener who, like Dunkley, is set to take part in a T20 World Cup this year.

Together, the duo represent the Three Lions at the top of the order, and with their signatures secured for a season in yellow, the Trent Bridge crowd are set to be in for a treat.
