Akhil & Wood Vying
For Outlaws Call
Match Preview | 30th April 2011
Notts Outlaws spinner Graeme White is out of Sunday’s Clydesdale Bank 40 match against Essex Eagles at Chelmsford after suffering a broken finger.
White has his finger in a splint and will discover next week whether a pin will be inserted to aid healing.
His exclusion could make way for Akhil Patel or Sam Wood to come into a side which should be otherwise unchanged.
“Power hitting and dynamic fielding are the key facets in 40-over cricket." Mick Newell
Notts lost their opening limited overs match against Somerset last weekend and are keen to get back on track.
“Essex are a dangerous side and we’re mindful of the threat posed by Alistair Cook and Ravi Bopara,” said Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell.
“Pettini and Foster are excellent one day players and Napier hits the ball a long way so we’ll need to show more aggression than we did against Warwickshire.
“I’m looking for higher individual scores and that may mean that we ask our top three to push harder early on.
“Power hitting and dynamic fielding are the key facets in 40-over cricket and we’re capable of making improvements in those areas.”
Newell plans to preserve Andre Adams and Charlie Shreck for LV= County Championship cricket whilst he waits for senior seamers to return to fitness.
“Darren Pattinson will play for our second eleven next week but Andy Carter will be out for six more weeks so we need to ensure that the workload is shared,” said Newell.
“Jake Ball and Steven Mullaney were excellent last week and Ben Phillips was doing us a favour in playing because he wasn’t fully fit.”
White’s injury is an obvious blow but Adam Voges, Akhil Patel and Scott Elstone provide Chris Read with additional spin options beyond the obvious prowess of Samit Patel.
