White & Wessels Return
To Familiar Surroundings
Match Preview | 8th July 2011
Graeme White and Riki Wessels will return to familiar surroundings when Notts Outlaws face Northants Steelbacks at Wantage Road this evening.
White and Wessels enjoyed long spells with Northants prior to their moves to Trent Bridge and will both feature following Samit Patel's return to the England camp.
"Grame has been unlucky with injury and the way we've balanced the side but he has a lot to offer to the side," said Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell.
"We've secured a home quarter-final and our new target is to win the group which is why every game is still important. It makes sense that our preference is to face the fourth-placed side in the South Group to give us the best possible chance of mkaing it to finals day."
Newell refuses to be drawn on the potential make-up of his side for the climax of the competititon ast Edgbaston given that Notts have a tricky quarter-final to navigate.
Adam Voges will depart after the quarter-final and rules state that any overseas players appearing in the knockout stages must have also featured in a group game. Voges, David Hussey and Tamim Iqbal therefore are the only possible targets but a fourth signing could still materialise for the climax of the LV= County Championship and Clydesdale Bank 40..
"I'm looking for an overseas player to feature during the latter part of the season in 40-over and four day cricket," said Newell.
"We want a quality top order batsman and we're exploring our options to see who might be available."
Notts Outlaws team to face Northants Steelbacks: Alex Hales, Tamim Iqbal, Adam Voges (C), Riki Wessels, Scott Elstone, Chris Read, Steven Mullaney, Graeme White, Andre Adams, Darren Pattinson, Luke Fletcher
