Elstone & Turner To
Leave Trent Bridge

Nottinghamshire duo Karl Turner and Scott Elstone have been told that they will not be offered new deals at Trent Bridge.

Elstone is a product of the Nottinghamshire Academy and shot to prominence with two catches for England whilst acting as twelfth man against India at Trent Bridge in 2011.

“Scott has found his way into our limited overs teams blocked by other players,” said Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell.

“He has shown promise when he’s had opportunities and I sincerely hope that he can find a future in the game because he’s a great lad who fitted into the dressing room extremely well.”

Turner arrived at Nottinghamshire after a five year spell in Durham’s second eleven and trials at Derbyshire and Hampshire. He made his first class debut in 2011 but couldn’t firmly establish a spot at the top of the order having scored 227 runs in 9 first class innings for Nottinghamshire.

“We hoped that Karl might challenge for a place in the opening partnership and he showed some positive signs without ever really nailing the spot,” said Newell.

“Riki Wessels and Alex Hales have taken those places now and so we couldn’t see him figuring in our plans next season.”

Newell hopes that the emergence of Sam Kelsall and Sam Wood can add depth to his batting options next season.

“Having the two Sams around next season will be like having two additional players given that they spent most of this summer with England under 19s,” said Newell.

“They’re developing nicely and we want to give them both opportunities to play.”
