Craig Overton and Sophie Luff have won the Men’s and Women’s PCA Player of the Year awards in a clean sweep for Trent Rockets.
Overton and Luff, both 32, were announced as the respective winners at the PCA’s End of Season Awards on Wednesday after their roles in a successful summer for the Rockets.
Luff’s 119 runs, which included her first fifty in The Hundred, were vital in seeing the Rockets women straight through to the final, where they were crowned as champions for the first time.
Meanwhile, Overton claimed eight wickets with the ball as the men’s side also topped the group-stage table, ultimately going on to finish as runners-up.
The pair helped the Rockets become the first team ever to see their men’s and women’s sides both go straight to the final, lifting the inaugural Hundred Helix for best combined team.
Both Overton and Luff were each named in the Men’s and Women’s PCA Team of the Year, respectively, with Overton captaining the former.
He defeated competition from Birmingham Phoenix’s Joe Clarke, George Hill, and Dan Lawrence of SunRisers Leeds to win the award.
“It’s a phenomenal feeling,” said Overton. “To be chosen by your peers to win this award is very special, it means so much to me.”
Luff, meanwhile, saw off fellow Rockets batter Sophia Dunkley, Mady Villiers of Manchester Super Giants, and Southern Brave’s Maia Bouchier to be crowned Player of the Year.
“It’s super special people have voted for me after the performances and impact they feel I’ve had this year,” she said. “It means that I’m doing things in the right way.”
