Gloucestershire won by five wickets

The 19-year-old came to Nottingham last year in an attempt to become a professional and says the century has given him extra confidence in his pursuit of a contract.

He said: ?Playing cricket is all I want to do and hitting a hundred at Trent Bridge was awesome.

?I only got the call that I was going to play on the morning of the game because Russell Warren failed a late fitness test.

?To then hit a hundred was fantastic and it?s got to be one of my best in terms of the venue. If I?m going to earn a contract I need to keep scoring as many runs as possible and I?m determined to give it my best shot.?

We went down to a five-wicket defeat to Gloucestershire at Trent Bridge despite Cameron?s fighting 116 and a late burst from fast bowler Saddiqi Phillips, who took four wickets.

Second XI coach Wayne Noon said: ?I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of Dave?s innings and he?s earned himself a few more games with us because of it.

?He scored two hundreds for the Under-19s last year and has stepped up now. The ball?s in his court and I?ve told him to keep on scoring heavily.

?We were outplayed for the first two days and left ourselves with too much to do on the final day, although I was pleased to see Saddiqi Phillips show what he?s capable of with the new ball.

?This year really will be about individual performances rather than results so I?ve taken two positives from the match.

?But for our staff players they really need to do more if they?re going to force their way into the First XI, where the batsmen are hitting hundreds for fun.

?I?ve told them they need to be hitting 150 or more, not just 50s. That?s the goal for the rest of the season.?
