Wagh named Player of the Year

Mark Wagh capped a brilliant debut season when he was named as ‘Player of the Year’ at Nottinghamshire’s End of Season Gala Dinner.

Wagh received his award from Paul Ellis, partner at club sponsors PKF (pictured) in front of 200 guests at Trent Bridge.

It was a fitting reward for a player who proved to be ‘Mr Consistency’ with the bat in all competitions over the course of the summer.

Wagh scored more than 1,300 first-class runs and at one stage hit 50 or more in eight innings in a row, including three hundreds, and also finished as the Outlaws leading scorer in one-day cricket, with 638 runs in the three competitions, with seven more half-centuries.

Speaker Ronnie Irani kept guests entertained with stories of his time with Lancashire, Essex and England, while Mick Newell promised plenty of hard work from the players and coaching staff to prepare for the return to Division One of the LV County Championship.

Other awards on the night went to Alex Hales (Second XI Player of the Year), Adam Shepherd (Academy Most Improved Player of the Year), while Wagh picked up a second award for his stunning boundary catch against Warwickshire in the NatWest Pro40, which was named as Yorkshire Bank’s Moment of the Season.
