Leics v Notts: Day Two Round-Up

Alex Hales boosted his chances of first team selection with an unbeaten 144 against Leicestershire at Grace Road.

Hales retired at tea to give Akhil Patel (33) and Sam Kelsall (26) time in the middle and his pre-season form has caught the eye of Notts Coach Paul Johnson.

"He played as well as I've seen him play," said Johnson.

"He dealt with the spinners well and put the bad balls from the seamers away. The boundary was short and the quality of the bowling was a bit inconsistent but he is pushing for acknowledgment."

Paul Franks scored 37 and trialist Greg Wood scored 59 before being trapped lbw by Naik, who then dismissed Samit Patel for 4.
