Rain Frustrates Second XI

Featured News | 15th May 2009

Rain had the final say on the final day at Welbeck where the Notts Second XI were restricted to a draw against Leicestershire just as they were pressing for victory.

The start was delayed by 45 minutes and Nottinghamshire’s seam attack were hampered by a wet outfield which softened the ball and flattened the seam.

Mark Footitt and Charlie Shreck were unable to make an early breakthrough and it was Andrew Carter who drew first blood, having Josh Cobb brilliantly caught by Kevon Cooper diving to his right in the slips on the stroke of lunch.

Another superb catch from Ben McGuire, diving backwards to a skier from Jaques Du Toit, opened up the inexperienced Leicestershire lower order batting.

Footitt had Sundeep Patel, who had defied the Notts attack for nearly three hours, caught by Scott Elstone for 39.

Jason Brown came on to take 2-6 in six overs to reduce the visitors to 140-7, just two runs in the lead, but they were forced from the field for the final time at 3.30pm.
