Patel & Read Build
First Innings Lead
Featured News | 15th April 2011
Samit Patel excelled alongside club captain Chris Read as Nottinghamshire established a first innings lead against injury-hit Hampshire.
Notts Academy Wicket Keeper Adeel Shafique stepped in to deputise for Nic Pothas who suffered a calf strain that will end his involvement in the fixture.
Notts were 34-2 when Patel arrived at the crease and 266-6 when he departed having struck 18 fours and a six in his 116. It could have been different though as he was dropped on nought before he increased the rate and the volume alongside Read who made 54.
Voges (0), Brown (1) and Fletcher couldn't make a start in conditions conducive to swing and seam movement. David Griffiths was the main beneficiary with 5-72 kick-started when he bowled openers Mark Wagh and Paul Franks in an incisive opening spell.
Hampshire will reflect on missed opportunities in the field whilst Andre Adams and Charlie Shreck will resume with Notts 293-9 and closing in on an additional batting point.
