Broad On Track
For World Cup Return

Nottinghamshire bowler Stuart Broad hopes to make his return to competitive cricket in England’s ICC Cricket World Cup warm up match against Canada on Wednesday 16th February.

Broad claims to be ahead of schedule in his recovery from a stomach strain and is determined to play a leading role in England’s campaign.

“Hopefully by the end of this Australian tour I will have come off near to a full run-up,” said Broad.

"It's been hard to find the right balance that we will go into the World Cup with. You can't do anything about injuries in sport that's just the way it happens.”

“My aim is to try and play the first warm-up game of the World Cup which is still two-and-a-half to three weeks away.”

Graeme Swann will miss England’s warm-up fixtures as he recovers from a back strain and prepares for the birth of his first child but Broad hopes that his Notts teammate will report back fit and firing alongside fellow absentee Tim Bresnan.

"The injuries are pretty minor so I don't think that is going to affect any balance to the World Cup squad or anything like that, but obviously it is a little bit frustrating in this series to have lost as many players as we have," said Broad.

"It's been hard to find the right balance that we will go into the World Cup with. You can't do anything about injuries in sport that's just the way it happens.”
