Nottinghamshire will provide one third of England's squad for the ICC World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka next month.

Stuart Broad will captain the team with Graeme Swann, Samit Patel, Alex Hales and Michael Lumb also included.

Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell has spoken of his pride in the selection despite having to plan for the climax of the LV= County Championship season without key players.

"We always take great pride when a Nottinghamshire player is selected for England because it is a fair reflection on how well they have done for us." Mick Newell.

"We always take great pride when a Nottinghamshire player is selected for England because it is a fair reflection on how well they have done for us," said Newell.

"We always expected to have four players involved and Michael Lumb's selection is no major surprise given the quality he has shown in domestic cricket this season.

"England want to have a left-handed option at the top of the order and he is a very clean striker of the ball."

All five players will miss the final two matches of the LV= County Championship season with Swann and Patel also missing the match against Warwickshire at Edgbaston having been selected for the NatWest Series One Day Internationals against South Africa. Broad has been rested for the One-Day series.

“We are very much looking forward to beginning the defence of our World T20 title next month," said National Selector Geoff Miller.

"We know that it will take exceptional cricket to retain the trophy and that begins with the first match against Afghanistan.

"This is a very balanced squad combining experienced players with some young talent who have done well at both international and domestic level this season and who are all very excited by the challenges ahead in Sri Lanka.”

Nottinghamshire's Jenny Gunn has been included in the England Women squad for the ICC World Twenty20.
