Bangladesh’s hopes in the ICC Cricket World Cup may depend on the form of star opening batsman Tamim Iqbal.

The 25-year old from Chittagong can be one of the most destructive hitters in international cricket and has 4 centuries in 135 ODI appearances to add bear testimony to his talent.

Tamim had a brief flirtation with county cricket in 2011 when he made 5 appearances for Notts in the Friends Life t20 competition.

He made his debut at Derby, scoring 8, then he hit 47 against Yorkshire at Headingley, followed by 35 against Worcestershire at New Road and 14 at Old Trafford against Lancashire.

His only match at Trent Bridge ended dismally, as he failed to score, although he did have the satisfaction of catching out his Bangladesh team-mate Shakib al Hasan in the Outlaws win.

This ICC Cricket World Cup will be Tamim’s third, after appearances in the Caribbean in 2007 and in the tournament played in the sub-continent four years ago.

Bangladesh begin their campaign in Canberra on Wednesday, when they play Afghanistan, followed by a Brisbane clash against Australia on Saturday.

If the Tigers are to advance through Pool B and reach the knock-out stages they’ll need their left-handed opener to be at his very best.

Trent Bridge hosts the fourth Royal London One-Day International between England and New Zealand on Wednesday 17 June. Don't miss the chance to take in what promises to be an absorbing contest and secure your seat now.
