Nottinghamshire Seconds completed a comfortable 98-run victory over Lancashire in their Championship match at Notts Sports Club thanks to captain Brett Hutton’s 4-42.

The hosts couldn’t add to their overnight score of 180-9, as Matt Carter was LBW first ball to Toby Lester, the bowler finishing with impressive figures of 5-25.

That left Will Gidman unbeaten on 70 and Lancashire needing 206 runs to win the game on the final day.

The visitors opened with Harry Dearden and Alex Mellor and had added 13 before the former was Hutton’s first wicket, LBW for six.

The score had reached 45 by the 16th over when two quick wickets fell, Livingstone LBW to Gidman for eight and next over Mellor (29) edged to keeper Tom Keast off Matt Carter’s bowling.

As in the previous three innings wickets were falling early, Jones (2) getting caught at mid-off by Greg Smith off Carter in the 23rd over (56-4) and Daniel Lamb (2) was LBW to Simon Webster in the 26th, Lancashire falling to 69-5.

First innings half-centurion Josh Bohannon joined Stephen Parry and the pair negotiated the remaining overs to lunch, the score 86-5 after 29 overs, Parry on 27 and Bohannon on eight.

Resuming after the interval Parry (28) was out to Fletcher in the first over, Gidman taking a great catch at leg slip, the sixth wicket falling with just 88 on the board.

Hutton returned to strike twice in quick succession, first bowling Bohannon for ten and then removing Lilley in the same way for just three, Lancashire moving to 97-8.

Ashley Gowers came in next but he lasted just three balls before being bowled without scoring by Fletcher and last man Toby Lester joined Griffiths.

Captain Hutton finished off the game soon after, Lester caught by Keast for one, Lancashire all out for 107 meaning Nottinghamshire won by 98 runs.
