Nottinghamshire Seconds fell to defeat at the hands of Warwickshire despite 4-54 from Andy Carter and an unbeaten 85 from Will Root, a Jonathon Trott century proving the main difference.

Warwickshire won the toss at Coventry and North Warwickshire Cricket Club and chose to bat first, opening with Andrew Umeed and Jonathon Webb.

The pair had put on 39 in just under seven overs before Dominic Brown bowled Webb for 21, the wicket bringing Trott to the crease.

Umeed and Trott kicked on and by the 15th over they had progressed the score to 91-1, the former bringing up his fifty off just 50 balls.

Trott followed Umeed to the half-century mark soon after and by the 35th over the pair had brought the 200 up, both batsmen on 87.

Former England international Trott then accelerated to his 100, coming up from just 91 balls, before falling with the score on 238-2.

He edged through to keeper Tom Moores off Brett Hutton for 114, ending his partnership with Umeed on 199.

Freddie Coleman joined Umeed but the opener fell just short of his century, trapped LBW by Brown for 94.

Aaron Thomason came and went quickly for four, caught at midwicket by Anuj Dal off Will Root, the score reaching 257-4 in the 41st.

Andy Carter then joined the wicket takers, striking twice in his next over when he bowled Tom Milnes before trapping Tom Banton LBW next ball, both batsmen falling without scoring, Mark Adair joining Coleman.

The score had moved on to 290 before Carter struck twice in quick succession again, Adair bowled for nine and Coleman caught in the deep for 35.

This brought Brinder Phagura and Ben Brookes together but Phagura was bowled by Brett Hutton in the penultimate over five, last man Sukhjit Singh coming to the middle.

The pair safely negotiated the final balls with the innings closing on 307-9, Brookes not out seven and Singh not out four, Andy Carter finishing with 4-54 off nine overs.

Nottinghamshire’s reply got off to the worst start possible, losing Dal in the first over without scoring, caught by keeper Banton off Tom Milnes’ bowling.

Milnes struck again last ball of the 11th over when Moores edged to Umeed at first slip on 35 and two balls later the visitors found themselves 50-3, Dan Freeman caught by Banton off Phagura for 12.

Root was joined by Christian Purchase but the latter was out for six when he was caught by Adair off Phagura in the 16th over.

The visitors were soon six down with just 85 on the board, Hutton bowled for five and Tillcock caught behind for one.

Brown joined Root and added 49 before Brown was trapped LBW by Singh for 28 in the 30th over, the score 134-7.

Root continued to bat around the loss of wickets reaching his fifty from 67 balls, pushing the score to 163-7.

However, in the following over Connor Marshall was caught at mid-on by Milnes off Phagura for 13, bringing Ben Kitt to the crease.

His stay was short though, run out by Brookes in the 39th over for six following a mix-up between the batsmen.

The last wicket fell in the 42nd over when Carter was caught by Phagura off Milnes for two, Notts bowled out for 205.

Root finished the innings with a run-a-ball 85, the pick of the bowlers for Warickshire being Phagura who finished with 4-36, his side winning by 102 runs.
