Nottinghamshire Seconds took six Warwickshire wickets for just 144 runs as they enjoyed the best of a rain shortened first day of their Second Eleven Championship match at Notts Sports Ground.

The hosts were on the front foot from the start, winning the toss and breaking the partnership of Steve Leach and Alex Mellor with the fourth ball of the morning.

Brett Hutton was the bowler as he removed Leach for 0, the batsman edging through to Charles Lowen, one of the two trialists in the home side.

In the 10th over, Ben Kitt took his first wicket when he deceived Tom Lewis who shouldered arms and was bowled for ten, the score on 29-2.

Rain delayed play in the 13th over (37-2), forty minutes were lost and on resuming the score moved on to 66 by the 22nd over when trialist Dominic Brown bowled Mellor for 13.

Alex Phillips came to the crease but next over he presented Will Root with an easy catch at mid-wicket off Simon Webster’s bowling, out without scoring and lunch was taken with the score on 67-4.

In the second session Tom Milnes joined Simom Lambert but in the 30th over Milnes (12) edged to Kitt at 2nd slip off Brown bringing Peter McKay to the middle.

Lambert completed his fifty off just 58 balls in the 32nd over but with last ball of the 39th McKay was bowled by Kitt for 11, Josh Poysden coming to the crease with the score on 135-6.

After 41 overs rain, then bad light, stopped play with the score 144-6 and an early tea was taken.

No improvement in the conditions meant that no further play took place with Lambert ending the day on 77* and Poysden yet to get off the mark.
