Nottinghamshire’s Second XI lost their opening Second Eleven Trophy match at the hands of Durham as both sides scored over 300 at Richmond Cricket Club.

The hosts won the toss and elected to field first, Nottinghamshire opening up with George Munsey and Anuj Dal.

The pair had put on 32 before Munsey edged through to keeper Stuart Poynter off the bowling of Barry McCarthy.

Sam Wood and Dal shared a second wicket partnership of 128 with both batsmen passing 50 before falling in quick succession.

Dal (70) was caught on the long-on boundary by McCarthy off Ryan Pringle and Wood was adjudged LBW by Jamie Harrison for 69.

Brett Hutton and Greg Smith shared another decent partnership, taking the score to 239 before the fourth wicket fell.

Smith, trying to add quick runs, couldn’t clear mid off with Gordon Muchall taking the catch off the bowling of McCarthy.

Hutton was the third Notts batsmen to pass 50 in the innings, coming off just 46 balls, but was caught at mid-on off McCarthy just two balls later for 56.

Luke Fletcher joined Adam Tillcock, the latter completing the 300 with a four in the 49th over and the innings closed on 316-5 with Tillcock 29 not out and Fletcher 16 not out.

The Durham reply got off to a slow start, losing their first two wickets with less than 40 on the board.

Poynter fell for 0 after edging the fifth ball of the innings to Simon Webster at slip off Hutton and Adam Tillcock removed Gordon Muchall for ten, stumped by Tom Keast.

Ryan Pringle joined opener Graham Clark and they took the score from 39-2 to 149-2 to set up an exciting chase.

Matt Carter made the big breakthrough, trapping Pringle LBW for 62 and Clark was caught in the deep off Wood’s bowling for 79, the score moving to 174-4.

That was the last of the success for the visiting bowlers though, Dylan Budge and Adam Hickley seeing their side home with just under two overs to spare.

Budge’s fifty came off just 31 balls and the game was finished early in the 49th over, Durham winning by six wickets with Hickley unbeaten on 95 and Budge on 66*, the final score 320-4.
