It has been another bumper week of cricket around the world with the Matador Cup reaching its concluding stages, India and South Africa battling it out in a One Day International series and the Prime Minister’s XI from Australia taking on New Zealand.

Throughout these encounters, a number of former Outlaws have taken to the field to show their ability and try and win games for their sides to victory, with varying degrees of success.

Here is a selection of performances by former Outlaws over the past week:

New Zealand V Prime Minister’s XI

New Zealand began their tour of Australia with a comprehensive win over a Prime Minister’s XI that included a number of former Outlaws in Peter Siddle, Adam Voges and Dave Hussey.

The match was ample warm up for the New Zealanders, with the pink ball used for the first time as warm up to the upcoming day night Test with Australia.

Wickets for Siddle (1-54) and Hussey (1-40) coupled with a fifty from Voges wasn’t enough to overhaul the 307-8 set by New Zealand as the visitors secured a 102-run victory.

A 196-run opening stand from Black Caps duo Martin Guptill (94) and Tom Latham set the tourists well on their way to a 300 plus total.

However, three quick wickets including Hamish Rutherford caught and bowled by Hussey without scoring pegged the tourists back to 199-3.

Lathan was unperturbed though, making 131 from 127 balls before Siddle returned to dismiss him with the score on 260.

Quickfire cameos from Jimmy Neesham (33 from 28) and Mitchell Santner (22 from 14) lifted the Black Caps up to a formidable total of 307-8 in their first innings against the pink ball.

It was then over to Trent Boult and Tim Southee to exploit the early swing on offer, the PM’s XI soon reduced to 13-3.

Battling knocks from Voges (55) and Ryan Carters (74) kept the hosts in with a shout but regular wickets dented any chances of victory as Neesham added 3-23 to his earlier knock, PM’s XI all out for 205.

Dan Christian

Christian has showed his prowess with both bat and ball over the past week as his Victoria Bushrangers side narrowly missed out on the Matador Cup final.

In a crucial week for his state side, his 2-47 helped guide Victoria to a 21-run victory over New South Wales despite Ed Cowan’s 39 at the top of the order.

With NSW already qualified for the final on Sunday, the Bushrangers faced two more matches to secure their own place in the Matador Cup showpiece.

Next up for Victoria was Tasmania where Marcus Stoinis (109), Aaron Finch (52) and Peter Handscomb set the platform for Christian (38* from 14) to smash three fours and three sixes to help post 320-6.

The total always proved too much for Tasmania as the Bushrangers progressed to the elimination final with a 48-run Duckworth Lewis victory.

Their fairytale week couldn’t come to fruition though as they fell to a 56-run defeat as South Australia went through to the final to face NSW despite Christian’s 14-ball 20, including two maximums.

Imran Tahir

South Africa’s premier leg spinner has been integral in his country’s push for One Day International series victory over India but has had an indifferent week in the third and fourth matches between the sides.

Tahir helped the No.3 ranked team in ODI cricket to a 2-1 lead after the third game in Rajkot, the spinner and Morne Morkel ripping through India after a Quinton de Kock century set up a competitive score of 270-7.

India made a quick start but lost crucial wickets in the middle overs, Tahir’s 1-51 including the wicket of Suresh Raina, backing up Morkel’s 4-39 to guide their team to a 18-run victory.

However, the second best ODI at the moment showed their worth, battling back to level the series 2-2 in Chennai, Virat Kohli’s 138 the telling factor despite AB de Villiers’ 112 keeping South Africa in the chase.

The visitors’ spinners struggled throughout India’s total of 299-8, Tahir going for 0-58 from his nine overs as the teams look to the decider on Sunday for final dominance.
