Andrew Carter, Nottinghamshire’s 27-year-old fast bowler, has signed for Derbyshire on a two-year-contract.

The paceman’s contract expires at the end of the current season and - although a new deal was offered - he has opted to seek increased first team opportunities at The 3aaa County Ground.

Carter made his debut in 2009, going on to make a total of 21 first-class appearances for the Club, as well as a further 40 matches in the limited-overs formats of the game.

He has spent time on loan at Essex and Glamorgan and boasts an overall first-class bowling record of 91 wickets, in 29 matches, at an average of 28.

His only first team appearance for Nottinghamshire in 2015 was in the LV= County Championship fixture against Worcestershire, when he played through the pain barrier with a side injury to secure second innings figures of 4-46.

“His attitude has always been very good and he’s a talented bowler,” said Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell.

“His brave spell, bowling with an injury in the match against Worcestershire, showed the kind of character he is and it was probably a turning point in our season.

“A combination of a few injuries and the performances of other young bowlers have stopped him from making the appearances he would have liked in 2015.

“He should get more opportunities to play more first team cricket at Derbyshire, and we wish him all the best.”

Carter revealed that the desire to play regularly in both red and white ball cricket prompted his decision to move.

“I’ll have more chance to play all three formats at Derbyshire, which is where I think I should be,” he explained.

“I was in and out of the team at Nottinghamshire, so I am aiming to get a good run of games under my belt and kick on with my career.

“Hopefully by coming from a Club like Notts I can bring all the things I have learnt to the younger lads coming through at Derbyshire.”
