For the second day in a row Nottinghamshire’s hopes of extending their winning run were put on hold by inclement weather.

Morning drizzle and a wet outfield delayed the start until 11am and when they did begin, only four overs of cricket were possible before the conditions deteriorated again.

Warwickshire’s captain, Varun Chopra, won the coin toss and elected to bowl first under cloudy skies.

Brendan Taylor hit Keith Barker through the off side for four in the first over of the match and then repeated the feat in the left-armer’s next over. Alex Hales, on the day that he was named in all three of England’s squads for the matches against Pakistan in UAE, beginning in October, moved to six not out as Notts reached 16 without loss before the stoppage.

Despite the best efforts of the ground staff the soggy outfield couldn’t be dried in time and shortly before 4pm the umpires called play off for the day.
