Nottinghamshire's Second XI have secured victory over Worcestershire, by 24 runs, via the Duckworth/Lewis method at New Road.

Nottinghamshire posted 227-9 with Anuj Dal scoring 63 and Dominic Brown adding an invaluable 49 to the cause.

Worcestershire, needing 230 for the win, made 134-6 before rain brought the game to a conclusion, with Matt Carter taking four invaluable wickets.

The home side won the toss at New Road and elected to field, bringing Sam Wood and Jake Libby to the crease for the visitors.

But the opening pair lost their wickets within three balls of each other, Wood (15) run out by George Newton in the final ball of the seventh over (31-1) and Libby dismissed on nine via the same method in the eighth over, Notts 33-2.

Will Root linked up with Joe Barrett, but the latter was caught by keeper Alex Milton off George Scrimshaw in the 10th over, out for eight with the score 49-3.

Dal helped Notts reach 50 in the 11th over before Root was ousted from the middle on 20, the third run out of the innings reducing the away side to 83-3.

Dominic Brown helped Dal take the score past 100 in the 24th over – their 50-partnership coming ten overs later, Notts 133-4.

Dal’s half-century was attained in the 38th over, coming from 70 balls and including five fours; but, two balls later, Brown – who fell just one short of his 50 – was trapped lbw, ending their fifth-wicket stand at 82, Notts 165-5.

Dal’s innings came to an end in the 46th over, caught at mid-off by Alex Hepburn off Chris Russell’s bowling (195-6), and Connor Marshall joined Tom Keast at the crease.

Notts reached 200 in the 47th over, but Keast, who made 25, departed after being caught at mid-on off Russell an over later (208-7).

Two wickets then dropped in the 50th over, Marshall run out and ending on seven and Carter caught by Hepburn off Russell as Notts closed on 229-9. Chris Russell finished with 3-53 off his ten overs.

Worcestershire opened with Will Fraine and George Newton and by the eighth over they had reached 55 when Fraine (31) was bowled by Milnes.

In the 16th over, Newton (17) was stumped by Keast off a wide from Carter (90-2) bringing Alex Hepburn to the crease, but he failed to score, bowled by Carter in the 18th with the score 99-3.

The home side seemed to be letting things slip as the second ball of the 19th saw Alex Milton, on one, caught by Keast off Brown’s bowling (100-4); then the last ball of the 22nd over saw Alexei Kervezee (39) dismissed as he tried to sweep Carter and fell to a good catch by Blatherwick (122-5).

Carter struck again with the second ball of the 26th over when he had Nicholas Hammond (21) caught at point by Jake Libby (134-6) and play was stopped for rain moments later, with Worcestershire 24 runs behind according to the Duckworth-Lewis method. Matt Carter finished with 4-25 off 7.2 overs.

The rain ensured no further play was possible, Notts the winners by 24 runs.
