Jackson Bird, the latest in the line of Australian overseas players at Nottinghamshire, is relishing playing at Trent Bridge when he joins up with the squad from early April.

Bird replaces the injured Peter Siddle and joins the Club on the back of career-best figures of 5-59 in the recent Test series victory over New Zealand.

And the 29-year-old is out to keep up his fine form for his new side, in order to keep him in the minds of the selectors for the Sri Lankan tour, in conditions that suit his style of bowling.

“My style is to challenge the batsmen with every delivery, making them play at balls they shouldn’t be and keeping the ball in the right areas for a number of overs,” said Bird.

“I think that kind of bowling suits the English conditions and I can’t wait to bowl on the surfaces at Trent Bridge after talking to Andre Adams about the wickets there.

“I will hopefully be able to pass on a bit of my experience on to the younger lads but the trip also acts as a learning curve for myself and I will be picking the brains of players as to the best places to bowl on these surfaces.

"I am in a similar position back home where I am one of the older guys in the Tasmania attack and have that responsibility to help the younger lads coming through.

“I will aim to be bowling well throughout my ten games, to help the Club and keep my performances in the minds of the national selectors.”

Bird will join Dan Christian as overseas players for the 2016 season, continuing the strong link of that Nottinghamshire has with Australian players.

And the sight of Christian at the Club, along with further familiar faces, gives Trent Bridge a welcome feel for the arriving Bird.

"Nottingham is a great city and I was lucky enough to tour there during the Ashes a couple of years ago so I can't wait to return," he said.

"Obviously with Christian signed on Notts are getting a dangerous player in all formats of the game with the bat, a reliable guy with the ball and a guy who was probably the form all rounder of the Big Bash this winter.

"I have also met the likes of Broady and Alex Hales so it will be good to catch up with them and I played with Michael Lumb in the recent BBL season so I know what he is all about.

"He is well respected in Australia; the boys at the Sixers love him and he had an unbelievable season this year.

"He is one of the best blokes you will meet on the cricket field so it will be good to meet up with him again."

The 2015 season saw dramatic last-gasp four day victories, thrilling limited-overs contests and an historic Investec Ashes Test, all in the unique surroundings of Trent Bridge.

Next season, we’d wager, will be no less enthralling and frankly we’d hate for you to miss out.
