Nottinghamshire seamer Jake Ball is the new leader of the Professional Cricketers’ Association Most Valuable Player Rankings.

The 25 year-old, who is the nephew of former England and Nottinghamshire wicketkeeper Bruce French, has taken 23 first class wickets this season including seven in Nottinghamshire’s thrilling draw with defending champions Yorkshire in the Specsavers County Championship at Trent Bridge this week.

Five of Ball’s victim were in the top four of Yorkshire’s order which helped him to take 38 PCA MVP points from the match and replace Warwickshire’s Keith Barker as the leader of the rankings table.

Ball is the first player to reach 100 points in the PCA MVP this season and now leads the table by 18 points from Essex’s Alastair Cook, the England Test captain.
