Nottinghamshire’s youthful fast bowling duo of Ben Kitt and Jack Blatherwick have starred taking seven wickets between them on day one of the Second XI fixture against Derbyshire.

Kitt, a 21-year-old Academy prospect, recorded the standout figures of 23-7-65-4 as the visitors to Ladybay closed on 305-8.

Jack Blatherwick’s three victims for 41, meanwhile, were all members of the Derbyshire top five; Ben Slater (13), Greg Cork (15) and former Outlaw Scott Elstone for 36.

The score had been 149-6 prior to Matt Critchley (86) and Harvey Hosein (50) rescuing the Peakites with a seventh wicket stand of 135, prior to both being dismissed by Kitt late in the day; Tom Milnes (42) and Alex Hughes (21) having previously been dismissed by the Devon born paceman.

Luke Wood took 1-54 from 17 overs having trapped former Yorkshire opener Jonathan Tattersall for five early on.

Elsewhere in the Nottinghamshire bowling, Will Gidman took 0-38 from his 16 overs and Matthew Carter’s 21 overs cost 56.
