Having enjoyed a successful opening year in the City, with 20 Apprentices in employment across Nottinghamshire sport, applications for the 2017 Coach Core Programme are now open.

Coach Core began back in 2012, as a new programme for school leavers to train as professional sports coaches, whilst still in education.

Prince Harry joined the apprentices at Trent Bridge in 2016 as they led sessions with local school children in cricket, urban hockey, football and rugby.

Four members of the 20 strong cohort worked at the Club last summer, and Community Engagement Manager Mandy Wright believes it is a brilliant opportunity for young adults to get involved.

“This is a great opportunity for young people who are passionate about sport to get an apprenticeship with a professional organisation, that will support and mentor them through training and coaching in lots of different settings,” she said.

“What’s unique about these apprenticeships is that as a consortium we can offer a variety of experiences from local community events and activities to international sporting events.

“I have seen a huge change in our apprentices over the past 12 months, they have gained confidence and approach work in a positive and enthusiastic way.

“They have realise the opportunities they have been able to access through this initiative just wouldn’t have happened for them and the skills they have gained will help them in the future.”

The programme was picked up by Team Nottingham last year, a consortium of professional sporting organisations comprising Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, Nottingham Rugby Club, the National Ice Centre, Epic Partners, City of Football and the Football in the Community arms of Nottingham Forest & Notts County.

Coach Core provides apprentices with an opportunity to develop their coaching skills, to gain valuable sports coaching qualifications and to be provided with education opportunities through training provider Lifetime, who will work with them to complete an NVQ Level 2 qualification.

Applications close at 5pm on Friday 27 January and to apply for the project or to get more information visit http://nottscountyfitc.org.uk/coach-core/
